About Joanie:

Joanie has taken NYC by storm warming the hearts of students, parents and teachers everywhere! Singing and playing all types of music from your child's favorite tunes to her upbeat originals found on "City Kid!", the excitement in her classes, birthday parties and concerts is unmatched!

Steadily growing as one of Manhattan's most recognizable kids singer, Singer/Songwriter Joanie Leeds has worked as the UWS Manager and most popular teacher at Gymboree Play and Music programs, and also as the music specialist for the JCC Nursery School of Manhattan. Currently she teaches at two Upper East Side Nursery schools (Central Synagogue and 5th Ave Synagogue) as their music specialist and freelances at a few other schools in the Manhattan area. Branching out and going on her own, Joanie can be seen all across the city at your special events and birthday parties!

Joanie 's love for music started when she was just a little city kid herself growing up in Miami, Florida. At her own 2 year old birthday party she dazzled the crowd grabbing the party performers microphone and singing "Tomorrow" from Annie at the top of her lungs! At the time, 2- year- old Joanie had NO IDEA that entertaining at birthday parties would all come back to her!

While just in high school, Joanie led and taught songs to children at Miami's Temple Beth Am's Saturday school with South Florida's most popular children's musician, Susan Shane-Linder. She was also elected SEFTY Song Leader for the southern region of her Jewish youth group NFTY- representing FL, GA, AL, SC and TN. There she taught and led songs at services, song sessions and conventions to hundreds of high school kids. At UAHC's Camp Coleman over the summer months, she was a song leader, camp counselor and taught guitar to kids ages 10-15.

Joanie graduated Syracuse University with a B.F.A in Drama and Musical Theater. While in college she started writing her own music and has since released three CDs of her original music, "My Job Application Know More About Me Than You Do" (2000) and the newly released "Soul from my Footsteps" (2004) http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/joanieleeds2 and "City Kid!" (2008) which will be released this Spring but is currently available at CD Baby and a few NYC stores for a sneak peek!

She has played at such popular venues as: Living Room, Arlene's Grocery, The Bitter End, CBGB's Gallery, Sidewalk Cafe, Club Passim (Boston, MA), Grape St. Pub (Philly, PA), Luna Star Cafe (North Miami, FL), Tobacco Road (Miami, FL), Wallflower Gallery (Miami, FL) and in the kids venues, Appleseeds (Chelsea), Citibabes (Soho), JCC Manhattan (UWS) and more...

While trying to figure out how to juggle a music career after graduating college (as all recent performance majors do), Joanie tried every type of job. From Marketing Assistant to Bartender to Real Estate Agent to Miramax Films casting assistant to PR at Epic Records... Joanie has experienced almost everything NYC has to offer. Then she remembered her 2nd birthday party and realized that she can make a living working with children and music at the same time. Viola! She has since gained many little fans in New York City from ages 6 months to 6 years old!

While walking in her Upper West Side neighborhood she is often greeted with "There's Miss Joanieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! MISS JOANIEEEEEE!!!!."
